Surge Protector

Surge protector

Traditional outlets only have room for two devices which is often inadequate for users. A surge protector plugs into your wall outlet and allows you to plug in multiple electronic devices. A surge protector will also protect your electronic devices from a power spike/surge.  A power surge is an increase in voltage significantly above the designated level usually caused by power outages, tripped circuit breakers, or short circuits. If a power spike occurs when a device is not hooked into a surge protector, severe damage to the device can occur. Because of the electrical sensitivity of computers and their cost, it is highly advised that they are hooked into a surge protector. It's also a good idea to use surge protectors for other high-end electronic equipment such as entertainment center components. A surge protector will not only protect them against servere damage but also extend the life of these devices.

One problem with surge protectors is that the MOVs can burn out with one good surge. This is why it's good to get a protector with an indicator light that tells you whether or not it's functioning properly.
